A 22-year-old man, Rakshit from Shamli, was arrested on Friday for allegedly abetting the suicide of his girlfriend, Shalu, also 22, from Muzaffarnagar. The incident occurred when Shalu jumped from the balcony of her 16th-floor flat in the Surajpur area of Noida. Rakshit was present in the flat at the time of the incident, while other flatmates were absent.
Investigation revealed that Rakshit had lured Shalu into a relationship but later refused to marry her. Police suspect this emotional distress and alleged torture led to her extreme step. Shalu was rushed to a hospital by residents but was declared dead upon arrival.
Following a complaint from Shalu's family, a case was registered under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. Rakshit was arrested on Sunday, and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Further investigations are ongoing.
