Schoolboy's Body Found Far Down Storm Drain
25 Feb
Summary
- Culvert entrance was easily accessible, rescuers noted.
- Searchers hoped Noah Donohoe would be found alive.
- Body discovered deep within storm drain tunnel.

An inquest heard that the storm drain culvert where schoolboy Noah Donohoe was found was "easy to get into." The 14-year-old's body was discovered in the tunnel six days after he disappeared in June 2020. His death was determined to be by drowning following a post-mortem examination.
Community Rescue Service volunteers were alerted after Noah's bicycle was found. Commander Sean McCarry stated that the 1,000m distance where Noah was located was "a long way down the drain" and far beyond what they expected. He expressed gratitude that Noah's body was recovered for his family.
Mr. McCarry's team highlighted the culvert's unlocked grille as easily accessible. They suggested a confined space-trained team search, as a slim adult could potentially pass through. A trained volunteer entered the culvert but had to withdraw due to safety concerns. The team also employed a "call and wait" process, shouting into the tunnel for any response.
A "massive effort" was made to find Noah, with over 100 volunteers involved in the search. Mr. McCarry emphasized that finding Noah was the priority and that any missed actions were constantly considered. The search for the missing youngster was described as "fluid" due to updated information, including the discovery of a phone and Noah's bicycle in different areas.
