NJ Tech Boss Guilty in Brother's Fiery Family Murder
13 Feb
Summary
- Paul Caneiro convicted of killing his brother and his family.
- The murders were allegedly motivated by a soured business relationship.
- Caneiro faces a potential life sentence after the guilty verdict.

Paul Caneiro, a 59-year-old New Jersey tech boss, was found guilty on Friday of four murder counts, two aggravated arson counts, and two weapons counts. The verdict stems from the 2018 killings of his brother, Keith Caneiro, Keith's wife Jennifer, and their two young children. The Monmouth County jury reached their decision after five hours of deliberation.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Paul Caneiro killed his relatives over a dispute concerning their shared technology firm, Square One. Keith Caneiro had reportedly discovered that his brother was embezzling funds from their businesses and from him personally.
Authorities allege that after committing the murders, Paul Caneiro set fire to his brother's mansion and also his own Ocean Township home. The fires were set in an alleged attempt to cover up the killings and mislead investigators, making it appear as though the family was targeted.
Defense attorneys suggested that investigators failed to explore other potential suspects and pointed to individuals seen at Keith Caneiro's residence shortly before the authorities arrived. Paul Caneiro is scheduled for sentencing on May 12 and faces a potential life term in prison.
