A Los Angeles grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner for the alleged murders of his parents, Hollywood director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Reiner. The indictment, unsealed Wednesday, allows the prosecution to proceed without a preliminary hearing. Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, with special allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait.
He was arrested on December 14, 2025, shortly after his parents were found deceased in their Brentwood home. The county medical examiner determined their cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries, with a knife identified as the alleged murder weapon. Nick Reiner has reportedly struggled with mental health issues, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, and a history of drug addiction.
Sources indicated that Nick Reiner had been in a confidential conservatorship since 2020 and was undergoing psychiatric treatment. It is reported that he switched medications approximately one month before the deaths of his parents. The family has not yet issued a public comment regarding the indictment. Nick Reiner's next court appearance is scheduled for September 15th.
