On September 17, 2025, a 46-year-old man named Rajeev Rathod from Anand filed a police complaint alleging that his wife Pooja and her mother Meena had fled with his cash and valuables shortly after their marriage in Vadodara.
According to Rathod, he had been searching for a bride for several years. In early September 2025, a relative suggested a prospective match living in Vadodara. Rathod was then introduced to a man named Manu Bhuvaji, who arranged a meeting with Pooja and her mother Meena at their home on Ajwa Road.
During the discussions about the marriage, Bhuvaji allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh and some ornaments from Rathod for Pooja and Meena. Pooja later reportedly called Rathod, saying she would accept only Rs 1 lakh, which he agreed to. The couple were then married in a simple ceremony at their home on September 22, 2025.
However, after the wedding, Meena suggested visiting a temple in Mandvi and asked Rathod to accompany them. When the auto-rickshaw reached Mandvi, Meena asked Rathod to step out and buy flowers. Seizing the opportunity, Meena and Pooja allegedly fled in the vehicle, taking Rathod's cash and ornaments with them.
