A significant newborn trafficking syndicate operating in Tronica City has been dismantled by police, leading to 16 arrests. The operation dates back to May 26, when a complaint revealed an infant was taken by an acquaintance and handed over to alleged traffickers. Investigations swiftly followed, resulting in the rescue of the infant and the arrest of 13 individuals on June 2. Subsequent efforts on Friday led to the apprehension of three more wanted suspects. The gang's modus operandi involved identifying financially strained families, luring them with cash, and coordinating deals primarily through WhatsApp, routinely deleting digital evidence. They also employed counterfeit currency mixed with genuine notes to deceive parents, leveraging their reluctance to report the crime due to their own legal exposure. The specific case involved a sister-in-law persuading a mother to sell her newborn, only for the mother to change her mind post-birth, leading to the infant's forced delivery to a buyer in Andhra Pradesh. Police continue to pursue leads to identify additional syndicate members and investigate the full extent of the newly arrested individuals' involvement.
