Newborn dies after brutal assault during land dispute

Tragedy struck in Kandhaikheda village, Kanpur, when a dispute over a mere square metre of land escalated into a violent assault, claiming the life of a two-hour-old infant. The baby's parents, Mahendra (38) and Jyoti (32), were severely injured during the attack. The incident occurred recently when Surendra, Mahendra's elder brother, along with his son and daughter, allegedly barged into Mahendra's home and began assaulting Jyoti. Bystanders attempting to intervene were also reportedly attacked. Tragically, the newborn was hit by a stick during the chaos. When Mahendra returned, he too was assaulted, sustaining fractures to his arms and legs. Both parents were admitted to Govt Ursala Hospital. Police have registered an FIR and are awaiting a postmortem report to determine further charges, including potential murder charges if the report corroborates the allegations.
