Summary
- Man found in barrel near Las Vegas identified as Edward Jackson.
- Remains were exposed in Lake Mead due to severe drought.
- Jackson was believed to have died from a gunshot wound in the 1980s.
After a years-long investigation, authorities in Nevada have identified the remains of a man found in a barrel near Las Vegas. The individual was identified as Edward "Buddy" Lelburian Jackson.
His remains were discovered in May 2022, exposed in Lake Mead after a significant drought caused water levels to drop. The barrel itself was corroded, and Jackson was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators utilized DNA analysis to finally identify Jackson and locate his family. Detective Robert Price of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department indicated that Jackson is believed to have died sometime in the 1980s. He was likely in his mid to late 50s at the time of his death and was originally from Arkansas.
Authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest Jackson's death was connected to any organized criminal groups, despite public speculation. Jackson had previously lived in California and Utah and had a prior arrest in Salt Lake City, but had no known ties to Las Vegas and was never reported missing.
