In a tragic incident that occurred over a decade ago, a 35-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his neighbor in Mumbai. The incident dates back to October 10, 2014, when the accused, Ranjeet Chauhan, got into a fatal altercation with the victim, Sandeep Dhamnaskar, over the latter's request for alcohol.
According to the court's findings, the dispute began when Sandeep allegedly slapped Ranjeet for refusing to bring him liquor. Ranjeet's employer, Harish Shah, later went to the victim's residence and warned that he "will not be responsible if anything happened." The victim's wife, Bhakti Dhamnaskar, then rushed to the scene and witnessed Ranjeet assaulting her husband with a screwdriver, inflicting over 25 penetrating injuries. The accused fled the scene upon hearing Bhakti's screams.
The court has now convicted Ranjeet Chauhan, who was 24 years old at the time of the incident, and sentenced him to life imprisonment for the brutal murder. The judge noted that the accused had "sufficient knowledge" that his repeated blows with the screwdriver would result in Sandeep's death.
