Neighborhood Bar Shut Down After Undercover Sting

Tipsy's, a neighborhood bar in Lackawanna, has ceased operations following a weekend undercover sting. This action was prompted by months of neighborhood complaints and resulted in a cease-and-desist order and a stop-work order. Visitors on Monday found the establishment locked with closure notices posted.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, leading a joint task force, discovered significant safety and legal issues within the bar. These included hazardous electrical wiring, overcrowding, and structural code violations, according to the Jacksonville Fire Marshal.

Additionally, three employees were caught selling alcohol past Florida's 2 a.m. cutoff. They received citations to appear in court instead of immediate arrest. This enforcement action addressed long-standing community concerns, including underage drinking, late sales, and recurring violence, with law enforcement having responded to numerous calls for service.

Neighbors and employees of adjacent businesses expressed relief at the closure, citing years of issues that degraded the surrounding area. They reported incidents like broken bottles and needles found on the premises, indicating a long-overdue resolution.
