In a tragic incident, a Doberman dog named JJ was discovered in a horrific state, tethered to a bathtub at a property in Nottingham in March 2024. RSPCA inspectors were alerted to the dog's welfare after receiving a complaint, and were shocked by the neglect they found.

The dog had no access to a comfortable resting area and appeared to be at risk of choking himself. Veterinary examination revealed JJ's ribs, hip bones, and spine were "prominent," indicating severe malnourishment. The dog also had an eye condition causing "irritation and pain." Despite previous welfare notices, the owners had failed to address JJ's deteriorating health.

The owners, Jack Lewis Elshaw and Chelsea Scott, have since pleaded guilty to offenses related to the mistreatment of the Doberman. Elshaw was sentenced to a two-year community order with 140 hours of unpaid work, while Owens received an 18-month community order. Sadly, JJ's condition was so dire that he had to be euthanized.
