NCW Report: Nashik BPO a 'Toxic' Den of Harassment
12 May
Summary
- NCW team calls BPO environment 'disturbing and toxic'.
- Nine staffers accused seniors of sexual abuse and religious coercion.
- Zero compliance found with the POSH Act at the workplace.

A fact-finding team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) has characterized the environment at a TCS-linked BPO in Nashik as "deeply disturbing and toxic." Their extensive report, submitted on May 5, details pervasive sexual harassment and abuse of authority. The NCW recommended that management implement strict safeguards to protect female employees.
The investigation, initiated on April 15, involved speaking with complainants, internal committee members, and police. Nine staffers have accused eight senior colleagues of sexual abuse, harassment, and religious insensitivity. Nashik police have since arrested eight individuals in connection with these allegations.
Investigators found that the accused targeted young, vulnerable women, creating a coercive atmosphere through sexual and emotional harassment, and denigrating Hindu beliefs. Female employees feared professional repercussions for speaking out. The report also noted a complete lack of POSH Act compliance, including non-functional CCTVs and an ineffectual internal committee.
The NCW advised strict adherence to POSH Act mandates and suggested improvements to HR and redressal systems. They recommended witness protection for complainants and witnesses. TCS, however, disputes the claims of non-compliance, stating that mandatory POSH training was provided and CCTV cameras were operational.
