Zoe Welsh, a dedicated science teacher at Ravenscroft School for nearly two decades, was fatally attacked during a home invasion on January 3rd. Tragically, she was on a live 911 call reporting the intrusion when the assailant, identified as Ryan Camacho, allegedly began his assault. Responding officers arrived at her Raleigh residence to find her with life-threatening injuries.
Despite immediate medical attention en route to the hospital, Welsh succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have not disclosed the specific nature of her wounds, and an official cause of death is pending. Police apprehended Camacho, 36, in the neighborhood shortly after the incident. He has been charged with murder and felony burglary.
Camacho, who was released from prison in July after serving over five years for discharging a firearm, is being held without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on January 5th. The Ravenscroft community and neighbors expressed deep sorrow and shock over the senseless loss of the respected teacher.
