8 Apr
Summary
- Man charged with murder for allegedly poisoning wife with eye drops.
- Accused of staging his own kidnapping and harassing in-laws.
- Evidence of lethal Tetrahydrozoline found in wife's preserved blood sample.

A North Carolina man, Josh Hunsucker, is accused of fatally poisoning his wife, Stacy Hunsucker, with eye drops. Prosecutors allege he administered lethal doses in her drinks over several weeks, leading to her death in 2018. He was arrested in December 2019 on charges including first-degree murder and insurance fraud.
Further accusations arose in 2023 when Hunsucker, while out on bond, allegedly harassed his wife's parents. He also reportedly staged his own kidnapping, claiming his in-laws had injected him with a substance. Investigators believe he attempted to poison his daughter as well.
During a court hearing on Monday, April 6, 2026, Hunsucker's bond was revoked, and he was returned to jail. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial for Stacy's murder case is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 8, 2026.
Evidence suggests Hunsucker poisoned his wife for life insurance money, a motive prosecutors also suspect in his alleged attempt to poison their daughter. He initially refused an autopsy for Stacy, but investigators obtained a preserved blood sample. This sample revealed Tetrahydrozoline levels significantly higher than therapeutic doses, a substance that can cause heart failure.
