As of September 26, 2025, the Navi Mumbai police have been leading a relentless campaign against drug trafficking and consumption in the city. Over the past three years, from 2023 to 2025, the authorities have registered a total of 1,831 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, resulting in the arrest of 2,854 accused individuals.
In a significant development, the police have disposed of narcotics worth a staggering $26.48 million, which were seized in 35 NDPS cases. This comes after the authorities previously incinerated $11.61 million worth of drugs seized in 79 NDPS cases back in February.
The crackdown has also led to the arrest of 101 African nationals, with the seizure of narcotics worth $40 million. Additionally, the police have deported a total of 2,034 African nationals who were residing illegally in Navi Mumbai, with 989 of them being blacklisted.
To further strengthen their efforts, the police have taken legal action against seven accused involved in large-scale drug dealings by invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). They have also sent three proposals to the government for approval to invoke the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, 1988, against the criminals involved in drug dealing in the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate area.
The authorities have also launched a helpline number, '8828 112 112', for citizens to provide information to the police regarding drug peddling, with the identity of the informants being kept confidential.
