Federal authorities are continuing their investigation into the tragic death of Maleeka "Mollie" Boone, an indigenous girl who disappeared on January 15 while playing in her Coalmine, Arizona, neighborhood. The FBI and Navajo Nation Police Department revealed on February 25 that evidence suggests Boone was struck by a passing vehicle the night she went missing. Investigators believe the driver of the large vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, may have been unaware they hit the child.
Boone, a member of the Navajo Nation, was last seen around 6 p.m. on January 15. Her body was discovered the following morning, January 16, in a field within the Coalmine Navajo Housing Authority neighborhood. A Turquoise Alert was issued shortly after her disappearance. The FBI has since established a command station in Coalmine and is actively seeking information.
On February 26, the FBI announced a $25,000 reward for information pertinent to the case, particularly regarding vehicles on Cedar Loop Road between 5:50 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. on January 15. The Navajo Nation President expressed deep sorrow over the loss and offered condolences to Boone's family, urging public prayer and respect for their privacy during this difficult time. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
