An 18-year-old student at Northern Arizona University (NAU) has died from alcohol poisoning following a fraternity party. Colin Daniel Martinez was found unresponsive on January 31 and later pronounced dead at the scene. His blood-alcohol level registered an extremely high 0.425%.
Authorities have arrested three leaders from the Delta Tau Delta fraternity on suspicion of hazing. These individuals, aged 20 at the time of the incident, are currently under review for formal charges by the Coconino County Attorney's Office.
Court documents indicate Martinez and other candidates shared two bottles of vodka during the fraternity event. Witnesses reported attempting to monitor his condition throughout the night.
In response to the tragedy, Northern Arizona University suspended the fraternity chapter, and the national organization subsequently voted to close it permanently. The university has reiterated its commitment to student safety and its zero-tolerance policy on hazing.
