Summary

  • Two men attempted to kill an autorickshaw driver with stones.
  • Alert policemen intervened and saved the driver's life.
  • The violence stemmed from a dispute over bus stand passengers.

A dispute over passenger pick-up at Nashik's Thakkar Bazaar bus stand turned violent on Monday evening, nearly costing an autorickshaw driver his life. The incident occurred around 7:15 PM near Trimbak Naka, where the victim was repeatedly attacked with stones in full public view.

Two alert crime branch policemen, assistant sub-inspector Sunil Adke and constable Guru Gangurde, were passing by when they witnessed the assault. They immediately intervened, managing to overpower the assailants with the help of other personnel before fatal injuries could be inflicted. The injured driver was promptly taken to Nashik Civil Hospital.

Authorities have arrested Pavan Patil (25) and Rahul Sonawane (25), both from Wadner Dumala. Investigations revealed the violence stems from a territorial rivalry between autorickshaw driver groups vying for control of the Thakkar Bazaar bus stand operations.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Deepak Patil, one of the arrested men had been threatening him and his associates over operating from the bus stand. The complainant stated that he was called for a meeting to resolve the dispute, but instead, he and his colleagues were attacked by four individuals.
