DNA Mystery: Experts Seek New Clues in Nancy Guthrie Case
10 Apr
Summary
- New DNA analysis techniques are crucial for deciphering mixed samples.
- Investigators may re-examine Nancy Guthrie's home for DNA evidence.
- A potential second crime scene could offer further DNA recovery opportunities.

More than two months after Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, authorities are still seeking suspects in the perplexing case. DNA expert CeCe Moore suggests that returning to Guthrie's Arizona home to gather additional DNA samples could yield significant progress. Current DNA analysis methods struggle with mixed samples, which are common and difficult to deconvolute, especially with highly sensitive new technologies.
Moore theorizes that the development of new mixture deconvolution software has been expedited due to the high-profile nature of Nancy's case, making it a top priority. She is hopeful that officials will find a strong DNA source in the residence, believing the perpetrator must have left genetic traces. If the home yields no solid DNA, Moore suggests discovering a second crime scene would offer another chance for evidence recovery.
She noted that finding Guthrie's body, if deceased, would unfortunately provide another opportunity to collect DNA evidence. However, Moore emphasizes that returning to the known crime scene at the home is the next best step if a second crime scene isn't found soon. She stated that if the perpetrator was present for an estimated 40 to 42 minutes, it is highly probable they left DNA behind.
