Violence erupted in Nagpur's Nandanvan police station limits early Tuesday following an initial brawl stemming from alleged public nuisance at a late-night party. The conflict escalated around 1 am, leading to significant arson and property destruction, including a café being set ablaze and a car burnt.
In response to the chaos, Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident, spearheaded by an additional CP-rank officer. This move places the local police's response and crowd management capabilities under scrutiny. Police Inspector Vinayak Koli was subsequently transferred from the Nandanvan police station.
Authorities have arrested seven individuals in connection with the violence. Among those detained is Abhijit Shelke, a known criminal with a murder case and other offenses against him. All seven were remanded in police custody until February 7, as investigations into the root cause and potential wider involvement continue.
