Nagpur Residents Revolt Against Illegal City Encroachments

Residents in Nagpur's Ganesh Nagar have voiced strong concerns regarding illegal commercial activities and encroachments within their residential zone. They report that repeated complaints submitted to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and zonal authorities have been ignored, leading to significant disruption and public nuisance.
Allegations include an illegally operating biryani center on a residential plot, a beer shop causing public safety issues due to crowding, and a hookah lounge contributing to noise and air pollution. Residents also pointed to an adjacent vacant plot being used as a garbage dumping ground.
Despite prior attempts to address the issues through complaints and RTI applications, no effective action was taken. However, zonal assistant commissioner Narendra Bawankar stated that recent visits and notices were issued, and encroachment on the footpath was removed.
Following a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, a collaborative effort between the NMC and police has been planned. Eviction drives are scheduled for the upcoming week to eradicate these illegal operations and restore peace to the locality.
