East Nagpur was gripped by terror on Saturday evening when a brazen public lynching occurred at Vishwakarma Nagar, mere meters from the bustling Rajkamal Chowk market. Vishal Bansode, 32, was brutally murdered by a gang led by the notorious criminal Birji Balaji Kewatia.
The horrifying incident unfolded in two stages. A heated argument inside a country liquor shop escalated, leading Kewatia and his armed associates to drag Bansode outside. On the crowded footpath, they pinned him down, inflicting blows with sticks before resorting to heavy roadside boulders to crush his head until he was motionless.
Despite horrified onlookers and shopkeepers witnessing the gruesome act, fear paralyzed intervention as the gang issued threats. Ajni police swiftly arrested prime accused Kewatia, who has a history of serious offenses. A murder case is registered, and authorities have formed special teams to apprehend the remaining assailants.
