Bhatia was found deceased in a Jaripatka police station lock-up on the morning of January 23, 2026. The deceased was a BSc student and a resident of Handiya in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He had been taken into custody on January 18, 2026. The charges against him included kidnapping and violations of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The extensive post-mortem examination lasted two hours and was conducted by a specialized team at GMCH.
