Summary
- Gangster arrested with 52gm mephedrone and cash.
- Police note alarming shift of criminals to narcotics trade.
- Operation led to the apprehension of two individuals.

In a significant bust on Monday, police in Bhandewadi apprehended a gangster who had transitioned to the lucrative narcotics trade. The anti-narcotics squad seized 52 grams of mephedrone (MD) powder, ₹2.29 lakh in cash, and other items valued at approximately ₹9 lakh. This operation underscores a worrying trend identified by law enforcement: individuals with backgrounds in violent crimes are increasingly shifting to drug dealing due to the burgeoning demand for MD at pubs and parties.
The raid, conducted in Sangharsh Nagar near Wathoda Ring Road, led to the arrest of gangster Vijay Rahangdale, who has prior cases of murder and robbery, and Shahbaz Shah. A third suspect is currently at large. Preliminary investigations suggest Rahangdale was in the process of supplying MD to Shahbaz when the police intervened. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Bhandewadi Police Station.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to trace the supply chain and expose the broader cartel. Officials have vowed to dismantle the narcotics mafia, protect the youth from this escalating menace, and prevent further infiltration of organized crime into the drug trade.
