- Accomplice remains at large; gold chain not recovered by authorities.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is now investigating the death of 28-year-old Sumedh Gajbhiye, who passed away while in police custody. This development follows allegations of chain snatching and a subsequent mob assault on Gajbhiye and his accomplice in Nagpur. Preliminary forensic examinations suggest that Gajbhiye may have died from sudden cardiac arrest rather than injuries sustained from the alleged assault.
Authorities are still working to locate Gajbhiye's accomplice, identified as Deepak Patil, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The stolen gold chain has also not been recovered. The investigation by the CID will meticulously examine the events leading up to Gajbhiye's death, including the alleged mob lynching and his time spent at the police station.
CCTV footage from multiple locations is under review as part of the investigation. A separate accidental death report and a robbery FIR have been registered. The final cause of death will be determined by the autopsy and chemical analysis tests, with the CID's findings expected to shed light on the complete sequence of events.
