Grief-Stricken Cop Jumps Into Lake After Family Dispute

A police head constable, Shilratna Bhimrao Belekar, aged 45, died by suicide by jumping into Ambazari lake in Nagpur. The incident, discovered on Tuesday morning, is attributed to a family dispute concerning the custody of his two children, who are in Class 8 and Class 4. Belekar had been absent from his post at Pratap Nagar police station since February 19th. He was last seen on Sunday afternoon when he visited his brother, Ajay Bhimrao Belekar, before disappearing. Ajay subsequently filed a missing person report.
Citizens out for a morning walk on Tuesday found a body floating in Ambazari lake and alerted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene and recovered an identity card from the constable's pocket, confirming his identity. Ambazari police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
