- Murder motive stemmed from resentment over a broken marriage promise.
- Victim's neighbor arrested for murder after over a month missing.

On January 7, skeletal remains were found in a mustard field in Nagram, Lucknow, identified by a torn saree. This discovery led police to unravel the murder of 30-year-old Poonam, who had been missing since December 12. The investigation pointed towards her neighbor, Ashish Kumar, 20, who was apprehended on January 19.
Investigators revealed that Ashish harbored resentment towards Poonam after a promised marriage arrangement for his union with her elder sister's daughter fell through. He felt betrayed when the girl's marriage was fixed elsewhere, transforming their relationship into one of deep animosity. This resentment culminated in Poonam's death.
According to police reports, Ashish lured Poonam to a garden in Kubhara village on December 12, where he strangled her. He then transported her body approximately 25 km away, concealing it in the mustard field. Jewelry belonging to Poonam was recovered from Ashish, further implicating him in the crime.
