15 Mar
Summary
- Murder accused hacked to death after getting bail.
- Assailants used an SUV to ram the victim's car.
- Police suspect a gang feud behind the daylight murder.

A man on bail for a murder charge was hacked to death in broad daylight on Saturday near Karunagappally, in what police are investigating as a potential gang feud. Athul alias Aluva Athul, 30, the prime accused in the murder of gang leader Gym Santhosh, was attacked around 11:15 AM.
He was reportedly returning after reporting at the Karunagappally police station as part of his bail conditions. A gang in a Haryana-registered SUV chased Athul's blue car, forcing it off the road. The attackers then smashed the car windows, dragged Athul out, and repeatedly hacked him.
Athul sustained severe injuries to his head and legs and was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed. A man travelling with Athul also sustained injuries but managed to escape. Police have taken four people into custody, including two directly involved in the murder and two alleged accomplices who helped them hide.
Athul had been accused of hacking Gym Santhosh to death on March 27 of the previous year, following a home invasion that involved explosives. He had been arrested a month later in Tamil Nadu and was released on bail just two days prior to his own death.
