In Mumbai, an RTI activist named Amit Maurya was critically injured after being shot near his neck. The incident occurred late on a Monday night when an assailant on a motorcycle fired at Maurya and his friend. Two bullets struck their vehicle's windscreen, and one hit Maurya. Another bullet missed the friend and hit a wall.
The crime branch unit-1 has recovered the motorcycle used in the attack. The bike was found abandoned on a roadside in Mumbra. Investigations revealed the motorcycle was stolen from Sanpada. CCTV footage aided in tracking the shooter, though his identity remains unknown due to a helmet.
Maurya underwent surgery at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, where the bullet was removed. His condition is stable, and he has been moved to a general ward. Police confirmed the firearm was a country-made pistol and have sent shell casings for forensic examination. They are pursuing vital leads to apprehend the shooter and ascertain the motive behind the murder attempt.
