In a significant bust, Chembur Police in Mumbai have apprehended four individuals for their alleged involvement in attempting to sell elephant tusks valued at Rs 3.5 crore. The operation, based on a tip-off, took place at a lodging and boarding hotel in Chembur.
Authorities raided Room No. 304 of the hotel, where they discovered two elephant tusks weighing approximately 11 kg and 20.6 kg, totaling about 31.6 kg. The arrested suspects, identified as Akash Ahir, Sandeep Bidlani, Shashank Jangam, and Dinesh Nivanshi, were reportedly in the process of negotiating a sale when the police intervened.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation into this wildlife crime is ongoing as police seek to uncover further details about the ivory smuggling network.
