On October 30, 2025, Mumbai police launched a daring rescue operation to save 17 children and 2 other individuals who had been held hostage by a man named Rohit Arya for the past six days. Arya, a YouTuber and school teacher from Nagpur, had allegedly kidnapped the group and was holding them captive inside a studio in Powai.
After receiving a call about the incident at 1:45 pm, the police attempted to negotiate with Arya, but the talks failed. The police then entered the studio forcefully from the bathroom, at which point Arya opened fire on the officers, using the children as human shields. Arya was shot and injured in the retaliatory firing and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
All of the rescued children have been reunited with their families, and the police are currently investigating Arya's motives. Authorities have described the kidnapper as mentally unstable, and it has been revealed that he had carried out a protest march against a Maharashtra minister, accusing the state government of withholding his funds in the Education Department.
