A disturbing murder plot has been uncovered in Mumbai, allegedly orchestrated by a 60-year-old mother-in-law who hired a former domestic worker and her family to kill her daughter-in-law for a sum of Rs 3 lakh.
The victim, Sapna Gangi, was found unconscious at her residence on the night of August 16, 2026. Initial reports from her mother-in-law, Dhanlaxmi Gangi, claimed Sapna had fallen in the bathroom following an argument.
However, the Pant Nagar police became suspicious after Sapna was brought to the hospital and declared dead on August 17, 2026. Medical examination revealed strangulation marks and head injuries, prompting a deeper investigation.
Further inquiry, including CCTV footage analysis, allegedly revealed Dhanlaxmi's role. Police stated she was motivated by ongoing disputes and Sapna's prior legal actions against her in-laws, including a cruelty case filed in 2024 and a domestic violence complaint.
Around a month before the murder, Dhanlaxmi allegedly approached Mangala Jadhav, a former domestic worker, offering Rs 3 lakh. Mangala, her husband Suresh, daughter Shivani, and son Sajan are accused of entering Sapna's home on August 16, 2026, and executing the brutal attack.
Eyewitness accounts and technical evidence suggest the attackers used a glass, chilli powder, and a cloth for strangulation. Suresh and Sajan allegedly ensured the victim's death by pressing on her neck after she stopped breathing. The accused were arrested between August 17 and 18, 2026.
