A Mumbai court has convicted and sentenced 35-year-old Anand Balu Jadhav to three years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and harassing a 14-year-old boy in 2018. The incident occurred at the Kurla bus stop when Jadhav approached the boy, touched him inappropriately, and made explicit propositions. The court emphasized the sole testimony of the victim is sufficient under the POCSO Act.
The judge found Jadhav guilty of offences under Sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act, recognizing his sexual intent. The sentence accounts for the 11 months and 13 days Jadhav has already spent in detention. The court also ordered a referral to the District Legal Services Authority for victim compensation.
The prosecution successfully presented its case through eight witnesses, including the victim and his family. School records corroborated the boy's age as 14 at the time of the incident. Police apprehended Jadhav after the boy reported the incident, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.
