In January 2021, a significant drug trafficking network was dismantled by authorities, leading to the conviction of five individuals by the Special NDPS court in Thane. Separate raids across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics, including Mephedrone, Methamphetamine, and Ephedrine.
Officials recovered over 52 grams of Mephedrone, an unlicensed pistol, cash, and gold ornaments valued at Rs 3.57 lakh during an initial raid in Ghansoli. Subsequent searches uncovered millions of rupees in cash, more illegal firearms, and kilograms of synthetic drugs and precursor chemicals.
Arif Yaqoob Bhujwala, identified as the alleged supplier for the synthetic drug network, received the most severe sentence of 15 years imprisonment and a Rs 2 lakh fine. Other convicted individuals, including Parvez Khan, Mohammed Salman Khan, and financier Vikrant Jain, were sentenced to five years with fines, while Haris Faizullah Khan received a one-year sentence.
Properties worth over Rs 1.5 crore belonging to Parvez Khan were attached, and authorities also seized assets exceeding Rs 5 crore from Arif Bhujwala, further crippling the drug trafficking operation.
