Mumbai Drug Bust: Key Accused Nabbed on Return
1 May
Summary
- Key accused Mahesh Khemlani arrested upon arrival in Mumbai.
- Two MBA students died from suspected drug overdose at a concert.
- Khemlani allegedly supplied drugs and transferred sale proceeds.

Mahesh Khemlani, a central accused in a drug overdose case that resulted in the deaths of two MBA students, was apprehended early Friday as he arrived in Mumbai. This arrest marks the twelfth in connection with the incident.
The case stems from a music concert on April 11, where a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, among 25 MBA students present, allegedly consumed ecstasy pills and passed away the following day.
Police have accused Khemlani of supplying drugs to other individuals implicated in the case. Furthermore, it is alleged that he instructed them to transfer the proceeds from these drug sales into a bank account held by his live-in partner, Jiya Jacob.
Investigators reported significant financial transactions, amounting to Rs 40-50 lakh, within Jacob's bank account, which Khemlani allegedly operated. Police seek to question Khemlani regarding the origins of this wealth and the source of the drugs he purportedly supplied.
Given Khemlani's frequent residence in Hong Kong, authorities aim to investigate potential international drug smuggling and the existence of a global drug syndicate. Khemlani's lawyer, however, contends that his client had no direct financial or communication links with other accused and appeared voluntarily for the investigation.
Khemlani was presented before a Borivli magistrate's court and remanded to police custody until May 6.
