In Mumbai, a former bank manager, Rahul Punjwani, has been granted bail by the court in connection with an alleged fraud amounting to ₹29.83 lakh. The case involves the suspicious alteration of mobile numbers and email IDs associated with the bank accounts of deceased customers.
Punjwani, previously the manager of a private bank's Chowpatty branch, was arrested on September 9 by the Central Cyber region police. The bank's internal inquiry revealed that account details for a deceased customer, Vimala Patil, were allegedly modified using forged customer request forms. These changes reportedly occurred in July and October of 2025.
The court, presided over by Judicial Magistrate First Class Nilesh Dhend, granted bail upon a personal bond and surety of ₹1 lakh. The magistrate noted that while Punjwani's role is implicated, the documentary nature of the evidence did not warrant prolonged detention during the ongoing investigation.
