A mother of one, Paulina Szafert, tragically died by suicide approximately a week after experiencing a distressing car accident and arrest. She was found unresponsive in her bed by a friend, having taken an overdose. A note was discovered requesting care for her French bulldog, Fifi.
An inquest heard that Szafert was traumatized by the accident and arrest, which left her stressed and physically shaken. Despite past mental health struggles, her son described her as an amazing mother who prioritized others and believed she would not leave him or her beloved dog.
Szafert moved to the UK from Poland in 2004, working in security and training as a beautician. Colleagues remembered her as full of life and a cherished team member. A GoFundMe appeal was launched to return her body to Poland for burial, with friends mourning the loss of a kind and compassionate soul.
