Mother's Agonizing Wait for Justice and Granddaughter

June Bunyan, who moved to California with aspirations of becoming a defense attorney, was found murdered in her Los Angeles flat on September 11, 2025. Her mother, Jill Bunyan, who lives in Scotland, describes her daughter as bright and loving, but is now in profound distress over the circumstances of her death and the ensuing legal proceedings. The court process is anticipated to take two years, a period Jill finds unbearable as it delays her ability to grieve and find closure.

Compounding her grief, Jill has had no contact with her infant granddaughter, Regina, born in July 2025, and is devastated by the disappearance of June's belongings. She faces significant legal challenges in the US to secure custody of Regina and to pursue legal action against June's husband, Jonathan Renteria, regarding the missing property. A crowdfunding campaign has been initiated by the family to support these costs. Jill hopes Regina will eventually come to Scotland.

Authorities discovered June's body with missing limbs, and the autopsy indicated traumatic neck injuries. There is suspicion that baby Regina was present when the murder occurred. The initial classification of June as a "Jane Doe" due to missing documentation, including her passport which was later recovered from Renteria's parents, has added further anguish and complicated the repatriation of her body. Jonathan Renteria's lawyer has declined to comment on the case.
