29 May
Summary
- Mother and son sentenced for ramming victim into a tree.
- Attack occurred weeks after mother buried her son, Archie Battersbee.
- Victim suffered fractures to shoulder and foot in the chase.

Hollie Dance, 50, and her son Thomas Summers, 26, have been imprisoned for a revenge attack that involved a 13-mile car chase.
The duo pursued the victim from Westcliff-on-Sea to Basildon, Essex, on October 10, 2022. This incident took place weeks after Dance had buried her son, Archie Battersbee, whose death had garnered significant international attention.
Dance received a four-year sentence, and Summers was given five years. Jurors found them guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The court heard that the attack was motivated by revenge after Dance's daughter was allegedly assaulted.
During the chase, Summers rammed the victim's car, sending it into a bush. The victim sustained fractures to his shoulder and foot and described the attack as unprovoked. Dance also admitted to dangerous driving and was convicted of possessing an incapacitant spray.
Summers was found guilty of affray and had pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. His counsel described the pursuit as impromptu. The judge acknowledged the tragic circumstances surrounding Archie Battersbee's death but stated that "two wrongs do not make a right."
