16 Aug
Summary
- A mother and her son are accused of murdering a woman for gain.
- Police found a burnt body, leading to the arrest of the accused pair.
- The duo is also linked to a past robbery attempt that left a victim in a coma.

Siddipet police have apprehended a mother-son duo, Chakali Rajitha (38) and her minor son, following the discovery of a burnt body in Ramakkapeta village on August 8. The victim was identified as Athikam Vijaya, a resident of Bhoompally village. Investigations, including CCTV footage analysis, indicated that the accused strangled Vijaya to death in their grocery shop before setting her body ablaze on a footpath using petrol, after initially intending to dispose of it in a nearby forest.
The motive for the murder appears to be financial gain, as the accused allegedly pledged Vijaya's ornaments to raise money. Authorities have also linked the pair to the disappearance and murder of another woman, K Renuka, in May, whose body was reportedly burned in the Achamayyapalli forest. Furthermore, in June 2025, the accused allegedly attacked Annapurna from Bhoompally village during a robbery attempt, leaving her in a coma.
Police seized a significant amount of gold and silver ornaments from the accused. Investigations suggest the pair targeted women living alone, often those involved in property disputes or other conflicts. Authorities confirmed two murders and indicated plans for four more targets, though the accused had previously evaded suspicion in Renuka's disappearance case by misleading investigators.
