Mental Health Hospital for Mother in Child Killing

A mother, Akanksha Adivarekar, has been committed to a mental health hospital following the death of her four-year-old son, Agustya Hegishte. The sentencing occurred on Thursday, December 3, 2025, bringing a close to a complex investigation into the June 10, 2025 incident. Adivarekar pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

The former medical consultant admitted to stabbing her son 11 times in his sleep. Subsequently, she drank bleach in an apparent suicide attempt and presented herself to a hospital. Medical professionals provided her with life-saving surgery. The judge emphasized that Adivarekar requires treatment, not punishment, acknowledging the profound suffering she will endure.
