11 Mar
Summary
- Mother allegedly poured dish soap into son's mouth and ear.
- Son escaped to a flower shop to seek help from abuser.
- Both parents face multiple charges including child endangerment.

A Lake County judge ordered Priscilla Marshall, 34, to remain in jail on Tuesday, facing charges of severe child abuse against her 11-year-old son. Prosecutors revealed the boy endured years of systematic abuse, describing his home as a "house of horrors." Marshall allegedly punched her son, hit him with objects, threatened him, and forced him to write that "everybody hates you."
Marshall's 35-year-old stepfather, Cody Marion, also faces charges. While not accused of physical abuse, he allegedly knew about Marshall's actions and told the boy he deserved the punishment. The abuse reportedly began in 2023, and a previous investigation by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in 2023 did not result in charges. The boy escaped on Friday, seeking refuge at a flower shop, and has since been placed in protective custody along with his four siblings.
Marshall's request for release on electronic monitoring for a mental health evaluation was denied by the judge. Both Marshall and Marion have been ordered to have no contact with the children or each other. Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart vowed to protect vulnerable children and detain those who abuse them.
