Summary
- Mother convicted of capital murder for stabbing, throwing infant daughter.
- Toddler found with three puncture wounds, fall captured on surveillance.
- Defense's insanity plea rejected by jury; life sentence imposed.

A Houston mother, Channel Yonko, was convicted of capital murder on Friday for the horrific October 2024 killing of her 17-month-old daughter, Hannah Yonko. The toddler died after being stabbed and thrown from a third-floor balcony at the Beachfront Palms Hotel in Galveston.
Responding officers discovered Hannah with severe injuries on 59th Street. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Hotel surveillance footage captured the infant's fall, and investigators found a knife and other items in a hotel trash receptacle.
Yonko's defense claimed she was legally insane at the time of the incident. However, a jury rejected this argument after less than an hour of deliberation, finding her guilty.
Prosecutors chose not to pursue the death penalty. As per Texas law for victims under 10, Yonko automatically received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
