Two young girls narrowly escaped drowning in the Georges River after their mother allegedly threw them into the water on September 11, 2023. The 39-year-old mother, who has been charged with attempted drowning, reportedly told her daughters they would 'go to god' before pushing them from the Light Horse Bridge in Liverpool, Sydney.
The children, described as inexperienced swimmers, immediately struggled in the water and pleaded with their mother to let them out. They were found clinging to each other and were eventually rescued by a passer-by more than two hours later.
The mother, who also fell from the bridge, reportedly told paramedics she had been hearing voices urging her to commit suicide. A mental health judgment is scheduled to determine if she is fit to stand trial for the alleged offenses.
