In Medak district, Telangana, a 40-year-old widow, Karre Sayamma, was allegedly set on fire and killed by her 21-year-old son, Karre Durgesh. Durgesh, an autorickshaw driver, reportedly accused his mother of practising black magic and causing deaths in the village. These claims were not supported by police investigations or villagers' statements.
Durgesh had recently returned to his village from Hyderabad, where he worked. Investigators noted his erratic behaviour and suspected alcohol addiction. Sayamma, who lived alone and worked as an agricultural labourer, was allegedly attacked using diesel from her son's vehicle. Police have registered a murder case and formed special teams to apprehend Durgesh, who remains at large.
