Four young children, including a two-month-old infant and a two-year-old, were discovered by authorities hiding in a bathroom of a North Miami Beach apartment on September 26. This discovery occurred a day after their mother, Nathalie Belizaire, 29, had departed on a Bahamas cruise. Belizaire is now facing four felony counts of child neglect. Her attorney states she denies the allegations, and she is presumed innocent.
The situation began when the infant's father saw a post indicating Belizaire had purchased a Carnival cruise ticket. Belizaire had informed him she planned to leave the children with their great-grandmother. The Carnival Conquest sailed from PortMiami on September 25 for a three-night trip.
When the father could not reach Belizaire, he went to the apartment on Saturday night, found the children alone, and called 911. Rescuers gained entry and found the four children in the bathroom unsupervised. The great-grandmother reported that Belizaire never arrived to drop off the children as planned.
Belizaire was apprehended on the Carnival Conquest when it docked in Miami on September 28. She declined to provide a statement to police. A judge set her bond at $10,000 and ordered no contact with the children. The children are currently in foster care, and the Department of Children and Families is involved.
