Daughter's Death: Mom Demands US Police Reopen Case
16 Mar
Summary
- British coroner ruled daughter's shooting by father was reckless.
- US police initially deemed the tragedy accidental, never arrested father.
- Mother seeks US probe into father's intoxication and inconsistent account.

A British coroner's ruling of 'reckless' has intensified a mother's plea for US authorities to reinvestigate the shooting death of her daughter, Lucy Harrison, 23. Lucy died in Prosper, Texas, on January 10 last year, when her father, Kris Harrison, allegedly fired his gun while 'showing off.'
The Cheshire Coroner's court concluded that Harrison's actions were reckless, particularly given his intoxication. Lucy's mother, Jane Coates, argues that US police failed to thoroughly examine Harrison's recklessness, his level of intoxication, and contradictions in his statements. This contrasts with the Prosper Police Department's initial 'criminally negligent homicide' investigation, which was quickly classified as accidental, leading to no arrest and no indictment.
Evidence presented at the inquest revealed inconsistencies in Harrison's account. Friends and family noted Lucy's concern about her father owning a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, fearing for her half-sisters' safety due to perceived volatility. Harrison, who had no license or training for the firearm, purchased it for $500. The inquest also heard Lucy and her father had argued about sexual assault claims prior to the incident.
