A mother from Kirkland, Washington, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of her 10-year-old diabetic daughter. The incident occurred in July when the child succumbed to diabetic ketoacidosis while on a family road trip. Prosecutors allege that the mother, Lloydina McAllister, recognized her daughter's worsening symptoms but proceeded with a journey from Washington to northern California.
Despite the child reportedly falling into a coma, the family traveled over 700 miles, passing 31 hospitals before McAllister eventually sought medical attention. By the time they reached a hospital, the girl had been deceased for several hours. Detectives concluded that the delay in medical care was a contributing factor to the child's death, leading to McAllister's arrest on November 4.
McAllister reportedly claimed she did not seek help due to not having the father's permission to take the child out of state and that the child was responsible for her own medical supplies, which were left behind. Investigations revealed previous reports to child protective services regarding the girl's chronic condition mismanagement and concerning school incidents.
