Summary
- Mother charged with murder and attempted murder after children found unresponsive.
- One child died; the other is hospitalized but expected to survive.
- Father cites a 'complete mental health crisis' in his wife's alleged actions.

Disturbing 911 audio revealed screams from neighbors after a mother allegedly attempted to kill her two young children at their Durham, North Carolina home on February 12. Responding officers found both children, aged under five, unresponsive.
Andrea Faust, 41, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Tragically, one child succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, while the second child, a son, is expected to make a full recovery according to his father, Eric Faust.
During her court appearance, Eric Faust tearfully pleaded with his wife, describing the events as stemming from "a complete mental health crisis." He urged her to stop attempting to harm herself, as she was later hospitalized following a suspected suicide attempt at the Durham County Jail.
Neighbors recounted hearing cries for help and of one child being carried from the house. One caller reported hearing that Faust had overdosed, and a first responder administered Narcan at the scene. A public defender is representing Faust, with her next court date scheduled for Wednesday, March 4.
