A parent was arrested on March 10 after an alleged assault on a school administrator at Norland Middle School in Miami Gardens, Florida. Diliana Quintana-Avila, 40, was charged with battery on a school employee, disrupting an educational institution, and resisting arrest without violence.
According to an arrest affidavit, Assistant Principal Tiffany Hayes encountered Quintana-Avila near the school entrance after dismissal hours. Hayes reportedly informed the parent that parents were not allowed inside after 3:20 p.m. Quintana-Avila allegedly responded in Spanish and threw Gatorade at Hayes's face.
Despite attempts by Hayes and a responding officer to de-escalate the situation, Quintana-Avila reportedly became "irate" and "physically resistant." She was arrested and later released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. During a court appearance, Judge Mindy S. Glazer advised Quintana-Avila to "act like an adult."
Miami-Dade County Public Schools confirmed the incident, stating that school police apprehended the individual and that the district prioritizes the safety of students and staff.
